Declare the Muslim Brotherhood a Foreign Terrorist Organization
March 11, 2026
Why this matters
The Muslim Brotherhood is not just a political movement. It is a transnational Islamist network with a long history of spreading extremism, legitimizing anti-Western ideology, and nurturing organizations and figures tied to terrorism.
The warning Americans should not ignore
The Muslim Brotherhood has repeatedly benefited when Western leaders mistake organization for moderation.
Johnson's account shows that U.S. officials once elevated Brotherhood-linked figures because they appeared polished, strategic, and useful. That mistake helped hand legitimacy to a movement whose ideology was never truly aligned with Western freedom or pluralism.
America cannot afford to repeat that error.
When a movement inspires branches and affiliates tied to violence, supports extremists, and helps create the ideological pipeline that radicalizes the next generation, the answer is not wishful thinking. The answer is consequences.
What the Senate should do
The Senate should support immediate action to:
- Back full investigation and designation of the Muslim Brotherhood network under U.S. terrorism authorities
- Cut off financing, facilitation, and institutional support tied to Brotherhood-linked entities that materially support terrorism
- Strengthen sanctions, immigration screening, and enforcement against operatives and affiliates linked to violent extremist activity
- Make clear that America will not give political cover to movements that enable or glorify terror
